Prof. Dr. Tüzün Baycan from Istanbul Technical University (ITU), Department of City and Regional Planning was gave information about Sustainable Development Goals from Turkey and World.

Urban population in the world could be 3 billion by 2050

Dr. Baycan gave information about the situation and future of urbanization in the world and said, “Urbanization is an inseparable phenomenon of the modern world". At this point, the year 2007 can be considered a milestone. Because for the first time the urban population has exceeded the rural population. And, continue to increase after this date.


Urbanization brings some problems

Urbanization brings along some problems, not only increase in population in cities, many economic, social and environmental pressure has emerged in urban areas. Today, cities account for about 80 percent of global economic activity and account for 70 percent of greenhouse gas emissions. Clean water sources are polluted, supply is dangerous in the future.
